Closure of Bru Aimsir Hostel put on hold

The closure of a Dublin homeless hostel has been put on hold until adequate accommodation is found.

The Bru Aimsir Hostel on Thomas Street provides emergency beds for 100 people and was due to close in the coming days.

The decision to postpone the closure comes after a group of 16 former residents held a protest in the hostel this morning.

Sinn Féin Councillor and Chairperson of Dublin City Council Housing Committee Daithi Doolan is welcoming the news.

"Well I'm delighted to say following a meeting we've managed to see off the closure of Bru Aimsir.

"The 42 people who are staying there can remain there until proper and adequate new accommodation is found. The other 60 beds that are currently empty, we are going to review that in the coming days."
