Today is the closing date for applications under the Community Tourism Initiative for the Diaspora.

The initiative builds on the legacy of community involvement in The Gathering, and is a joint partnership between Fáilte Ireland, the 31 local authorities and IPB insurance.

The scheme, which is now in its second year, provides an annual fund of €1m to support local community based events and festivals.

In 2014, 376 local events were supported by the fund.
