Labour Councillor Brendan Carr has been elected Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Labour Councillor Brendan Carr has been elected Lord Mayor of Dublin.

In his acceptance speech tonight, he said he would work to help rid the city of gangland violence.

He is also proposing a special signage for businesses that pay workers a living wage.

And he has called for a 1% hotel room tax, to be used to support arts and culture in the city.

Councillor Carr represents the Cabra/Finglas Ward.

He was elected by an alliance of Labour, Sinn Fein, Green Party and Independent councillors.
