A man has appeared before a special court sitting charged with possession of almost €700,000 worth of cannabis herb.

A man has appeared before a special court sitting charged with possession of almost €700,000 worth of cannabis herb.

24-year-old Ronan Clohessy of Crossfields, Cree, Co Clare was charged before Limerick District Court with possession, and possession for sale or supply, of an estimated €680,000 worth of the drug.

Mr Clohessy, who was arrested at a house in Kilkee yesterday, was granted bail of an independent surety of €5,000 which was provided by a family member.

He was ordered to surrender his passport, sign on daily at Kilrush Garda station and was remanded to appear before Ennis District Court on January 14 next.
