Children's Rights Referendum to take place on Nov 10

The Government is to hold the Children's Rights referendum on Saturday, November 10.

The Taoiseach this afternoon told the Dáil that the Cabinet had now agreed the final wording, which will be published tomorrow. A referendum commission will also be established.

New adoption legislation will also be published tomorrow.

Mr Kenny says the Government intended to mount "a vigorous campaign".

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald said: "This Referendum is one of the most significant in the history of the State, which after years of inaction I am now bringing forward.

"This Referendum proposes a child-centred change to our Constitution and I think it is only right that we are taking a similar, child-centred approach to the holding of a Referendum, by naming a Saturday as polling date."
