Children of families at risk of homelessness being put into care

Barnardos say they are not surprised to learn that children are being put into care because their parents are at risk of homelessness.

The children's charity says it works with many families who are at risk of losing their homes.

The Sunday Business Post is reporting that some parents who are struggling financially are putting their children in care, instead of bringing them into emergency accommodation.

Chief Executive of Barnardos Fergus Finlay, says cases of this kind are of huge concern to his organisation.

"It wouldn't surprise me if, for example, some children, on a voluntary basis, went into foster care in order to ease the pressure on them and on their families at a time when homelessness is a real risk," he said.
