Child in hospital after being hit by train

A child has been taken to hospital after being struck by a train in Tipperary.

A child has been taken to hospital after being struck by a train in Tipperary.

The incident happened just outside Tipperary Town at around 7.30pm this evening and involved a train travelling from Limerick Junction to Waterford.

It is believed the young girl made her way onto the track.

The extent of her injuries are not yet known.

The Gardaí and Irish Rail have launched separate investigations into the incident.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said there were 8 passengers on board the train at the time of the accident and that they were transferred to Waterford by bus.

The train line is now closed, but will be fully operational by morning.
