Charlie Flanagan calls on parties in the North to enter talks to resolve Assembly crisis
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan has challenged all five major parties in the North to begin new talks on the future of the peace process.
Flanagan has said the Government will play a fundamental role in facilitating any talks, if the parties agree to take part.
He added the recent crisis, following claims of IRA involvement in the murder of Kevin McGuigan, should force parties to recommit to the Good Friday Agreement.
Flanagan believes roundtable talks are the best way for the five parties to rebuild trust and to work with each other.
“Time is of the essence (with) the Assembly due to meet next Monday, there well be various motions,” said Minister Flanagan.
“I believe in the meantime all five party leaders, and their respective parliamentary groups, should immediately commit themselves to the letter and the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement.”
