A Catholic housing agency has refused to allow single or widowed elderly residents to put double beds in their state-funded apartments.
One-bed apartments in Fr Scully House in Dublin have single beds and residents have been told by the Catholic Housing Aid Society that they are not allowed to swap them for doubles, even if they pay for the new beds themselves.

[/comment]The Irish Times has reported that some residents had already swapped the beds and were told to change them back.
The housing agency said that it is not in a position to store unwanted beds - and it said that it is trying to maintain certain standards.
