€1 million worth of cars seized by Gardaí have been destroyed in a fire on their compound lot in Co Louth.

The blaze broke out at the site near Haggardstown yesterday evening, forcing locals to shut their windows to block out the fumes.

There were nearly 100 cars stored in the warehouse at the time - the cause of the fire is still unknown.

There are no reports of injuries at this stage. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
