Car crashes through Galway railway crossing

A woman had a lucky escape after her car crashed through a railway crossing in Co Galway this morning.

A woman had a lucky escape after her car crashed through a railway crossing in Co Galway this morning.

The elderly motorist was driving towards Ardrahan on the N18, when her vehicle crashed through the barriers at around 10.45am.

The driver of an approaching commuter train was alerted to the incident and stopped several hundred metres before the crossing.

Engineers are currently repairing the damage to the level crossing.

The motorist was uninjured and train services have not been affected.
