Cancer accounts for 44% of life-assurance pay-outs

Cancer accounted for almost half of all death claims to life assurance firms in Ireland last year, according to new figures released by Irish Life.

The company paid out €117m last year, with cancer accounting for 44% of all claims.

The next biggest killer was heart disease, which accounted for 18%.
