Calorie and alcohol content labels launched by Diageo

Diageo drinks is launching new labels which detail calorie and alcohol content.

The parent company of Guinness and Smithwicks will start rolling out the new packaging from tomorrow.

Smithwicks will be the first brand in the Irish market to have the new labels which also include warnings on drink-driving and alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

Liam Reid from Diageo has said they should be seen on all their drinks within the next year and a half: “This is about providing consumers with the information.

“It is really their choice and their decision. Our ambition is to have this labelling on every can and bottle of Guinness around the world, in the next 12 to 18 months.”
