Calls for Shatter to resign at FF Ard Fheis

Fianna Fáil are calling for the Justice Minister Alan Shatter to quit.

The party's Ard Fheis has heard calls for him to go and to apologise to whistleblowers Sergeant Maurice McCabe and John Wilson.

Justice spokesperson for Fianna Fáil Niall Collins told the Ard Fheis that the Minister was presiding over cutting the Garda budget.

He added Alan Shatter was responsible for a trilogy of 'arrogant' failings.

* The penalty points debacle

* The GSOC bugging controversy

* The treatment of the Garda whistleblowers

The latter issue needs to be dealt with according to Collins.

Deputy Collins noted Mr Shatter is more interested in suppressing dissent than administering a police force.

Finally, he said Minister Shatter is not up to the job and it’s time for him to go.

The Minister is expected to address the criticism of him in a Dáil debate next Thursday.
