Cabinet to discuss wording of referendum

The Cabinet is set to discuss the potential wording of a Children's Rights referendum at its meeting this evening.

Minister Frances Fitzgerald's addressed her coalition colleagues in the Parliamentary Labour Party on the vote planned for autumn.

She says some further discussions will be needed before the Government makes an announcement on the date.

"What I've said all along is that we will publish the wording on the adaption legislation so we have some further consideration of the wording today and further cabinet meetings.

"The adaption legislation will then also be agreed by cabinet. We said all along, as the Tánaiste has said, that we're committed to having a children's referendum.

"We're on track to having that referendum as a standalone referendum in the autumn."
