Business group slams transport workers' strike

Dublin Chamber of Commerce has criticised today's four-hour strike by bus and rail workers and said it will not stop the Government's plans to break up CIE and privatise Dublin bus routes.

Dublin Chamber of Commerce has criticised today's four-hour strike by bus and rail workers and said it will not stop the Government's plans to break up CIE and privatise Dublin bus routes.

The Chamber of Commerce fully supports the Government's controversial plans, which unions said were introduced without consultation with workers.

Spokesman Declan Martin said: "We have to accept that change is inevitable, particularly in CIE. It has failed to deliver on its mandate to provide an adequate public transport service for the people of Ireland. What we are seeing today - this protest - is simply the last kick of a dying dinosaur."
