Business bosses to meet Dempsey on Shannon

05/09/2007 - 07:19:00
Mid-West business and tourism leaders angered by the loss of Heathrow flights at Shannon Airport will today hold their first meeting on the issue with Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey.

The Atlantic Connectivity Alliance said last month’s surprise move by Aer Lingus to transfer the slots to Belfast will put jobs at risk in local business and tourism sectors.

Mr Dempsey is earlier expected to brief the Cabinet on the latest developments at its weekly meeting in Government Buildings.

Representatives of the Alliance will later hold face-to-face talks with Mr Dempsey in his Department offices.

Ryanair yesterday made a fresh bid to force an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of Aer Lingus shareholders.

The former state airline earlier rejected the budget carrier’s demands.
