Bus pass safe from Budget cuts, Burton reports

Good news for pensioners' bus pass – the Government said there's no plan to remove the free travel passes from older people.

The Social Protection Minister, Joan Burton, said the scheme won't be changed in Budget 2015, after improvements to target fraud.

"The bus pass is an important resource for older people and also people with a disability," she said.

"We've invested heavily in rolling out a new social services card, which is much more fraud-proofed."

She said the new card had already been provided to 100,000 pensioners.
