Burton: Those who support water charges 'left to one side' by RTÉ

The Tánaiste Joan Burton says RTÉ needs to be fairer and more impartial in relation to the issue of water charges.

Joan Burton's comments come after an Irish Independent report claimed that TDs opposed to charges were given greater access to RTÉ programmes last month than those on the Government side.

She said the State broadcaster needs to be careful that it tells all sides of the story.

"I think certainly, at a certain point, RTÉ's sense of excitement, perhaps, about the water charges seemed to mean that their focus was almost exclusively on the people who are making a case about not paying," she said.

"They seem to leave to one side those huge number of households and people who have decided that we need a proper system of water infrastructure in this country."
