The Tánaiste says it will take more than one or two budgets to get Ireland back to economic prosperity.
Joan Burton is asking the electorate to trust the Labour party to deliver Ireland to economic recovery.
"It's not going to be possible to do everything that's been spoken of in either one budget or two budgets," she said.
"My job as leader of the Labour party is to ask people to consider, to look at the Labour party policies, to see what they will do for families, and particularly for getting people back to work - and then to see if they're prepared to trust the Labour party."
Earlier, the Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan said the Government can't afford to "lose the run" of itself in the Budget, amid reports that Joan Burton has briefed Labour ministers on a shortlist of tax relief options.
A Red C opinion poll at the weekend showed support for the Labour party at 8%, far behind opposition parties Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin.
