Burton: happy to stay where I am in Cabinet reshuffle

Joan Burton has said she is happy to remain on as Minister for Social Protection after a cabinet reshuffle.

Reports at the weekend suggested ministerial jobs would be redistributed after Ireland appoints a new European Commissioner next year.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan and Education Minister Ruairi Quinn are the frontrunners to leave cabinet for a job in Brussels.

But Minister Burton said she'd be happy to remain in the job she currently holds.

"I'm perfectly happy to continue serving in Social Protection," she said.

"I'm working with a very talented group of public servants ... we're working to transform the Department, and I'm certainly very interested, and very committed, to the job."
