Final preparations are taking place in Dublin today ahead of St Patrick's Day tomorrow.

Among the events going on around the world is the now annual 'greening' of landmarks around the world.

Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons said that it is now a truly global experience.

"Regular buildings now like the Sky Tower in Auckland will be one of the first to go green, along with the Sydney Opera House, the Burj al Arab hotel in Dubai, the Empire State Building here in New York, the London Eye," he said.

"We've got some new ones as well - the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is going green, along with the ancient wonders of the world, the pyramids of Egypt, which went green last night and looked absolutely wonderful."
