Budget deficit worsens in February

02/03/2010 - 17:29:47
New Government figures show an 18% drop in tax revenues to the year to February.

The deficit at the end of February was €2.4bn, compared to just more than €2bn in the same month last year.

Tax receipts were €1bn lower than the same period in 2009.

The biggest falls recorded in corporation tax, stamp duty and capital gains tax.

However, the Department of Finance expects the 18% shortfall to be only 6% by the end of the year, as the expected recovery kicks in.
