Brennan says success has brought selfishness and arrogance
13/03/2006 - 08:18:18Ireland is becoming increasingly selfish, impatient and arrogant as a result of its growing prosperity, according to Social and Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan.
Speaking at a conference of marriage counsellors in Cavan yesterday, Mr Brennan said Ireland was failing to use its new-found wealth to "reach down and lift up those who have been left behind".
He said this ran against the grain of human decency that the Irish nation has always prided itself on and holding onto this decency would be one of the greatest challenges facing Ireland in the near future.
