Boy awaits test results after DART syringe incident

A-seven-year old boy is facing an anxious wait for blood test results after he was pricked in the finger by a used syringe on a DART yesterday.

Irish Rail say they are investigating an incident in which a used syringe, lodged down the side of a seat, became stuck in the seven year old boy's finger.

The boy's parents notified staff at Iarnróid Éireann as soon as it happened last Saturday and wrote to the company this week.

Irish Rail Spokesperson Barry Kenny said they are examining CCTV footage to see how the syringe ended up there and have been liasing with the family since the incident was reported.

It could be six months before the boy is given the all clear.
