Boy accused of stabbing Corkman to death after argument remanded in custody

A 13-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of stabbing an Irish man to death after an alleged altercation at a block of flats.

Christopher John Barry (aged 53), who was originally from Cork but had lived in London for many years, was killed at his home in Edmonton, north London, on Sunday evening.

The teenager, dressed in a dark hoodie, rubbed his eyes as he was ushered into the dock at Highbury Corner Youth Court.

It is alleged that Mr Barry had been involved in an incident with a group of youngsters allegedly trying to gatecrash a party in another flat.

The prosecution claim Mr Barry was followed into The Broadway and killed because he would not let the boy and his friends in to the building.

Magistrate Christine Chamberlain told the boy: “You will be remanded to youth detention accommodation”, and he waved to his mother and father as he was led from the courtroom.

The boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – is next due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.

Four other boys, three aged 14 and one 13, arrested earlier this week, must return to an east London police station on a date in late January pending further inquiries, police said
