A nine-year old boy who fell into the sea off the North Clare coast last weekend has died in hospital.

A nine-year old boy who fell into the sea off the North Clare coast last weekend has died in hospital.

Aaron O'Flaherty from Limerick was out walking with his father when he fell into the water near the lighthouse at Blackhead shortly after 9pm on Sunday night.

The Doolin unit of the Coast Guard launched their boats and the Doolin rescue boat was launched at 9.30pm. Gardaí and the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter was also scrambled shortly after 9.30pm.

He was brought to Hospital in Galway and later transferred to Dublin but passed away earlier today.
