Boy, 6, dies three days after Cork hit-and-run

A six-year-old boy injured in a hit-and-run in East Cork on Wednesday has lost his fight for life at Cork University Hospital.

The boy, named locally as Luke O'Donovan, from Ballymacoda village near Youghal in East Cork was fatally injured when he was struck by a car that failed to stop as he was playing near his home around 1pm on Wednesday.

The emergency services were alerted and the boy was rushed by ambulance to CUH where he remained in a critical condition with his family by his bedside, but he passed away earlier today.

Gardaí are to prepare a file on the incident for the Director of Public Prosecutions after earlier this week arresting a 48-year-old local man and questioning him about the collision before releasing him without charge.
