Bord Gáis: Water decision up to government

The company responsible for installing water meters in homes across the country says it will be up to the government to decide whether flat-rate water charges are introduced.
Bord Gáis chief executive John Mullins says the government and the Troika will also have to discuss the exact date for the introduction of charges.
He says all the plans are in place to begin recruiting contractors for the installation of water meters.
However installation may not be complete by the end of 2013.
John Mullins says if that is the case, it will be up to the government to decide whether to introduce a flat rate charge.
"There isn't a decision as to exactly when charges will be applied. That's a matter for the Commission for Energy Regulation. It's an issue which will certainly be deliberated in 2013.
"The government has to discuss with the Troika exactly what date the rates will be applied. As far as we're concerned we've a job to do and we're going to do it."
