The bomb squad has dealt with a grenade dating from the early 20th century near Macroom in Co Cork.

The bomb squad has dealt with a grenade dating from the early 20th century near Macroom in Co Cork.

The army bomb disposal team was returning to base from an earlier call out in Co Kerry when the call came in.

The Mills type grenade was found in foliage on a farm in Lissarda and was assessed as potentially very dangerous.

The grenade was destroyed at the scene by controlled explosion.

It was the fourth request for the bomb squad today, after call outs in Monaghan, Carlow and Kerry.
