A body which was recovered from Lough Ree in Co Westmeath yesterday has been formally identified as missing angler Daryl Burke.

Search teams had been looking for him for over three weeks, after his boat capsized on the lake, near Athlone.

Daryl Burke, 30, from Portadown in Co Armagh was fishing with two others on Lough Ree in Athlone on March 20, when their boat capsized.

David's cousin Colin McCusker says it's tragic what happened, but he's relieved Daryl's body was found.

David Warnock, 27, and 60-year-old John Trimble were rescued within hours, but Mr Warnock lost his fight for life in hospital days later.

Searches continued for the past three weeks.

Earlier this week, the boat was located and yesterday divers recovered Daryl Burke's body.

A post mortem will take place at University College Hospital in Galway later today.
