A body has been recovered from the sea off the coast of Co Clare today.

Naval divers made the discovery this afternoon at around 3.30pm on day three of the search for a man missing from his home near Quilty.

Stephen Mungovan, 20, was reported missing on Monday morning after efforts to contact him by phone failed.

He was last seen after returning from a night out with friends on Sunday.

Gardaí and Irish Coast Guard units from Kilkee and Doolin carried out searches on Monday and were joined by naval divers yesterday.

The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter carried out several searches since Monday.

This afternoon, divers located a body a short distance from where Stephen was feared to have accidentally fallen into the sea.

The body was been recovered to the pier at Seafield and has just been removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.
