Bobby Aylward takes his new seat in Leinster House today

The Dáil's newest TD has arrived in Leinster House.

Fianna Fáil's Bobby Aylward is taking his seat this afternoon after winning Friday's by-election in Carlow-Kilkenny.

His arrival comes a day after Fianna Fáil lost another member of its parliamentary party when Senator Averil Power resigned.

But Deputy Aylward said that he is determined to work on local issues, and he does not think that Averil Power's departure will overshadow his day.

"This happens in political parties, it is not going to take from my day and I am going to make the best of it," said Deputy Aylward to applause and shouts from his well-wishers.
