Bin charges on way up

Measures introduced in the new Finance Bill mean VAT will now be imposed on some services provided by local authorities from July 1.
Depending on the VAT rate charged for equivalent private services, VAT of 13.5% or 21% will be imposed on such services
Parking and toll fees, local authority leisure and landfill facilities are all dues to see rises as part of the new measures, while a carbon tax of €15 per tonne will be imposed on fossil fuels.
