The Tánaiste is due to bring a Bill to Cabinet this morning that would allow people to be electronically tagged while they await trial.

It is suggested that Frances Fitzgerald's legislation would also allow the use of temporary driving bans for those facing serious traffic offences.

It would allow prosecutors to decide which suspects should be tagged pre-trial, as part of the Minister's attempts to clamp down on repeat offenders.
