A group of more than 70 motorcyclists have set up a free delivery service for the HSE, transporting blood and other medical products to hospitals all over the country.
Its aim is to help cut the HSE's taxi bill, which is currently more than €20m.
Blood Bike West set up last October. The charity [comment](facebook page here)[/comment] was such a success, it was decided to roll it out to the east of the country.
The initiative in the east of the country will be launched on Friday.
Founder of Blood Bike East Pat McCabe said all of their volunteers were vetted and ready to help.
"We're just trying to put a bit back into society. We're just trying to cut the bit of the hospitals' budget that goes into taxi services," he said.
"It's the one thing that we as volunteers can do."
