Controversial Mayo TD Beverly Flynn has been readmitted to the ranks of the Fianna Fáil party at the request of the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern.

Ms Flynn was expelled from the party in 2004 after a failed libel action against RTÉ.

The action was mounted after the state broadcaster revealed that she had helped people to evade tax while working for National Irish Bank.

Despite supporting her expulsion, Mr Ahern indicated after last year's election that she would be readmitted at some stage.

Ms Flynn will be formally readmitted to the parliamentary party at its regular meeting next Tuesday.
