Beaumont Hospital clinical director quits over patient safety concerns

The Clinical Director at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin has resigned, over concerns about patient safety.

According to reports in the Sunday Business Post, Professor Shane O'Neill sent an email to hospital management saying he could no longer stand over what he described as "significant clinical risks" at the hospital.

He raised concerns about the assessment of psychiatric patients in the emergency room, saying it was unsafe.

Although he has resigned as clinical director, Professor O'Neill will continue on in his role as a consultant at Beaumont.
