Baby death nanny makes new bail plea
An Irish nanny accused of killing a one-year-old US girl in her care is asking a judge to release her while authorities review medical evidence in the case.
Lawyers for Aisling McCarthy will argue for her provisional release at a bail hearing in Middlesex Superior Court, Massachusetts, today.
McCarthy’s trial has been postponed indefinitely as the state Medical Examiner’s Office reviews a finding that Rehma Sabir died of traumatic head injuries and that her January 2013 death was murder.
McCarthy, who was living illegally in the US and taking care of the baby in the family’s Cambridge home, has pleaded not guilty.
Her lawyers tried unsuccessfully in October to secure her release, saying she was willing to surrender her passport and be subject to GPS monitoring.
