The child and family agency Tusla has said it will continue to look after the infant for the next two months.
The mother refused to attend a court case to decide the child's fate this week.
The case came to national attention during the summer after media reports claimed a suicidal teenager was refused a termination under the new Protection of Life during Preganancy Act.
The woman - who is a non-national - gave birth by C-Section at 25 weeks.
