Insurer Aviva has announced price hikes to its policies ranging from 5.5% to 10%.
It comes despite the recent surge of people taking out new health insurance policies to counter a new levy on those aged over 35.
Aviva has blamed the increased cost of claims and an ageing customer base for the price hikes which come into effect in July. The hikes will affect more than 100 different plans.
The increases will mean some plans rising by between €200 and €470 a year for families.
