Australian police warn young Irish over anti-social behaviour
09/05/2012 - 14:37:06Police in the state of Western Australia are warning young Irish emigrants that excessive drinking could lead to their being deported.
It follows an increase in anti-social behaviour in the state, with some of the young Irish who have moved down under seeking work being blamed.
Police in the city of Perth are set to visit local GAA clubs over the coming weeks to advise members of the consequences of not abiding by the law, for example when requested to move on by police.
GAA Western Australia president Robert O'Callaghan however said the initiative was not singling out Irish emigrants, or the GAA.
"The police in question were ex-football players… who are currently serving in the Western Australia police department," Mr O'Callaghan said.
"It wasn't an attack on the Irish or an attack on the GAA in any respect.
"It was just to say that anti-social behaviour, across the board, will not be tolerated."
