ASTI plans own Junior Cert reform proposals

The ASTI is planning to draw up its own plans for the reform of the Junior Cert system.
The secondary teachers' union does not believe the changes, as outlined by the Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn, are the right way forward.
The most significant change to the cycle is the replacement of the one-off state exam with a continuous assessment of students.
The major overhaul will proceed as planned despite teachers’ claims they had not been consulted, Education Minister Ruairi Quinn insisted yesterday.
ASTI president Gerry Breslin said: "We have grave doubts about this at the moment. We are consulting our members and we intend to develop our own policy on reform and bring this to the Minister."
