Arrest in connection with Drogheda house fire which seriously injured elderly woman

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with the manslaughter of an elderly woman, who died after an arson attack at her home in Co Louth.

Eva Berrill who was in her 70s, was hospitalised following the fire in Drogheda last summer. She died three months later in hospital.

Nicola Kavanagh of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda appeared before Drogheda District Court this morning, charged with the unlawful killing of Ms Berrill.

She had already been charged with damaging the house on the Chord Road by fire on August 16 last year.

Detective Garda Brian Kerrins told the court the accused replied "I didn't kill nobody" when the manslaughter charge was put to her this morning.

After he was told there would be no application for bail, Judge Flann Brennan remanded her in custody for a week.
