Army detonates old grenade found on Cork farm

The army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion in Mallow in Cork after an historic grenade was found on a farm.

The explosive, which could date back to the War of Independence, was discovered by chance by a member of the public at lunchtime.

The grenade was moved to an open area before being detonated.

The army are reminding anyone who finds an old device not to touch it and ring 999 straight away.
