Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to a serious assault earlier this week in which a detective garda was injured, saying they particularly want to speak to two men, and a woman pushing a pram.

The assault took place on Tuesday evening in Ravensdale Park, Crumlin.

The detective garda injured in the incident, who is attached to Sundrive Road, sustained head injuries in the assault.

He was brought to St James Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released.

"Gardai are interested in speaking to anybody who was in Ravensdale Park or the surrounding areas between 7.30pm and 9.15pm on the 25/3/2014 or anybody who may have information in relation to this incident," a garda statement said.

Gardaí said they would particularly like to speak to a woman, who was pushing a pram with a child in it in the park around the time of this incident, and two men described as wearing suits and coming from work.

"One of these men exited Ravensdale Park at the entrance beside the KCR Builder providers at around 7.45pm," the statement continued.

"The other entered Ravendale Park through the Kimmage Rd West entrance and walked down the walkway through the park sometime between between 7.50pm and 8.30pm."

Witnesses are asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station on 01 6666200, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
