Apology from Queen 'unlikely'
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will make her only speech of the royal tour at Dublin Castle later this evening.
A host of dignitaries, including church leaders and politicians from north and south have been invited.
After a series of deeply symbolic gestures during the visit so far, there is much interest in what the Queen will say tonight.
Former Advisor at the Department of Foreign Affairs Gerry O'Connor does not believe an apology of any form is likely.
Mr O'Connor said: "What we have been told to expect is that the troubles of the past will be acknowledged and the legacy of the peace process will be highlighted. What they are emphasising is that this is not about an apology, but an appropriate acknowledgement of the past.
"The speech will then go on to elements of the visit itself and the mantra that you hear from all officials is that this is neighbours meeting as friends and equals."
