Anti-Austerity Alliance: Water charges commission has 'agenda' and must be scrapped
The Anti-Austerity Alliance has criticised the decision to replace the head of the water charges commission rather than abolishing the commission altogether.
Former chair of the Labour Court, Kevin Duffy, is to replace Joe O'Toole - after Mr O'Toole burl=743360]stepped down[/burl] over comments indicating that he was in favour of the charges.
The The Anti-Austerity Alliance says that the Commission is rigged and that it has no faith in it.
"Whoever the establishment put in there to chair this commission, there is an agenda there which is to try and sweeten the pill and try and get the water charges past the people," said Cork Anti-Austerity Alliance Mick Barry.
"The O'Toole affair let the cat out of the bag and has shown people what the real game is here.
"Irrespective of which way the Commission try and pose it, people in this country are not going to accept water charges."
