Anglo Bank clerk faces ten years for stealing €200k from the bank

A Limerick man will be sentenced next week for a €200,000 computer fraud at a branch of Anglo Irish Bank three years ago.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard that 42-year-old Gordon O’Brien of Springfield, Dooradoyle had set the money aside as a warchest because he was going to lose his job in the wind-up of Anglo.

He committed the fraud by transferring clients’ money into several bank accounts he controlled.

He would then take money from internal Anglo accounts and put it into the clients’ accounts to make them seem in order.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to six counts of dishonesty at Anglo Irish Bank, Henry Street, Limerick over a ten-month period between September 2010 and June 2011.

He faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

He was remanded on continuing bail until July 25 when the case will be finalised.
