Almost 50,000 mortgage accounts were in arrears of three months at the end of March.
Some 49,609 mortgage holders were unable to keep up with repayments to their lenders, an increase of morethan 5,000 on December's figures.
New figures from the Central Bank show that 6.3% of the total number of private residential mortgage accounts are in arrears of over 90 days.
The figures also show that almost 63,000 mortgages had been restructured.
